With some reluctance, I chose this, purposely ensnaring, topic to draw attention to the truth of Christians loosing their mind for the love of Christ. There is reluctance on my part because I would not want anyone to surmise that Christians should loose their ability or desire for intellectual interaction. Concern here is that Christians loose what popular motivational speakers call “stinking thinking”, as a result of their Love Of Christ.
Christians endeavor to loose their minds, their natural way of thinking, that stinking thinking, because they have found a new love, and desire their minds to be conformed to the ways and attitudes of their Lover. Philippians 2:5, encourages Christians, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”. This means to loose the way that you have been thinking, and to keep thinking in the manner of Christ, which was having love, without partiality, toward one another.
People, it has been said, have lost their minds due to the consuming romantic, and erotic love for another individual. One old school songwriter put it like this, “too busy thinking bout my baby, ain’t got time for nothing else”. Truly, when the mind becomes devoid of all, or most positive and spiritually inspiring thoughts, it is opened up to the intrusion of every negative and evil influence. Not to say that all romantic and erotic love is evil, however, exclusive focus on this aspect of love will keep you in perpetual turmoil. In other words, you will have lost your mind to the ways and love of the world.
Christians and those seeking a new love, on the other hand, may find a redeeming word from the prophet Isaiah, “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusts in thee”(Isaiah 26:3). Focusing and resting in Christ and His Love assures us that our minds are lost to the affairs and anxieties of this world. No longer can we be encompassed and held in bondage to fear, failure, lack, or doubt of an unsound mind. Therefore, we are inspired to loose our minds; because God, in Christ, has given us,and filled us, with power, love, and a sound mind.
