Today is cluttered and encumbered with many troubling events. Ethical diversity deemed politically correct, violence perpetuated in sacred places, and terroristic training viewed as preparation for self defense, may all become wearisome to a people who have taken upon themselves the burden of Christ.
Although people of God walking together for the cause of Christ may at times feel heavily burdened with the oppressive works and conflicts of this world, nevertheless, we may be assured there is a rest for the weary.
In the book of Hebrews, the writer proclaims, ” we which have believed do enter into rest…” (4:3), and “he that is entered into His rest, he also has ceased from his own works” (4:10). Seeking for rest in a weary world? Stop trying to figure it out and remember that God has already worked it out.
Jesus himself beckons us from our weariness, saying, ” come unto me all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28). Hear His voice today saints and hard of heart alike, as we traverse tribulation and trial, hatred and high mindedness, know and be confident that, ” there remains therefore a rest to the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9).
