December Butterfly

Emerging common expectations of cold
rising from drowsy fathoms growing old
Some surmise that here destiny only dies
no conscious thought of seeing butterflies

Cool morning drafts warmed in glint of sun
trees once leaved now bleak and bare with none
Watching as winter threatens to cover the ground
where joyful nature noise and silence of heart resounds

Could there be ascending from the dark of night
such hope and lovely longings renewed by sight
Would frigid anticipation obstruct these skies of blue
or simply serve the heart a challenge to open its view

Languishing while looking to clear the deadening blight
surprised by God’s interjection of unseasonal light
Holy wonder evokes delight prompts awe stricken sigh
life’s future fearing freezing sees December Butterfly
